Objective :

Workshop practice imparts basic knowledge of various tools and use in different sections like fitting , tin smithy , carpentry etc. No doubt, engineers are not going to become a fitters or carpenters or skilled worker on the shop floor, but exposing to all working trades, provides them a birds eye view of the basic practical activities associated with all section of manufacturing unit. It also helps them, when they occupy managerial position, in understand the activities and practical difficulties so that they can take appropriate decisions.

Objective :
  • To educate students about stress strain characteristics (tension and compression) of metals by using UTM and to determine compression strength of wood.
  • To demonstrate students about different hardness testing machines- Brinnels, Vickers and Rockwell’s.
  • To demonstrate students about Impact test by using Izod and Charpy methods and torsion tests on circular shafts.
  • To find stiffness and modulus of rigidity by conducting compression tests on springs.
  • To demonstrate bulking of sand and Sieve Analysis and determination of fineness number.

Mechanical Engineering Lab I & II
Objective :

To demonstrate and perform basic principles like flash point & fire point of various fuels, study the effect of temperature on viscosity of various lubricating oils using Redwood Viscometer-1 &2, calibration of pressure gauge, study of valve timing and port timing diagrams of petrol and diesel engines, determination of calorific values of gaseous fuels using Junkers calorimeter, determination of volumetric efficiency of single stage air compressor using tank capacity method and plate orifice method, to determine mass moment of inertia of connecting rod and study of various boiler models , their mountings & accessories.

To demonstrate and perform basic principles like carrying out load test on horizontal and vertical diesel engines, to prepare a heat balance sheet for a twin cylinder diesel engine, to determine friction power in four cylinder petrol engine by conducting Morse test, to determine volumetric , isothermal and adiabatic efficiencies of two stage reciprocating air compressor, to draw the displacement and velocity diagrams for slider crank and four bar mechanisms, to find the gyroscopic effect of a rotating disc.

Outcomes :

Students will able to understand the importance of finding flash and fire point of various liquid fuels, necessary to know the viscosity of various lubricating oils, need of calibitarion of various measuring equipments, understand when the valves and ports of 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines open & close, the need to determine mass moment of inertia of connecting rod, importance and application of reciprocating air compressor

Students will able to understand the importance of determining various powers and efficiencies of IC engines, what are the various sources of heat loss and % heat loss in a IC engine, how to find friction power in multi cylinder engines by Morse test, importance of drawing displacement and velocity profiles for slider crank and 4-bar mechanisms, the gyroscopic effects on rotating parts.

Objective :

To demonstrate basic knowledge of manufacturing technology by understanding mechanics of metal cutting which includes chip formation and types of chips, tool materials ,geometry and signatures , tool wear and life, cutting forces and power, measurement of forces and temperatures, metal cutting economics, cutting fluids,Engine lathes operations and mechanisms and types of lathe machines and also their applications, boring machine and operations, shaper, planner and slotter, types, operations and mechanisms, drill geometry and cutting actions, principle operations of grinding machines and abrasive belt machining , non conventional machining like ECM AJM, LBM,EBM,WJM etc

Objective :
  • To demonstrate the fundamentals of Metrology and Measurement Engineering concepts, different tools used for minute measurements, and calibrate various kinds of measuring instruments.
  • To demonstrate the involvement of sensors and electronic devices in the mechanical oriented industries by introducing PLC, and Mechatronics equipment.
  • To demonstrate the use of logic circuits in controlling various mechanical devices including material handling equipment, lift control systems, pneumatic controller systems etc.
  • To demonstrate the techniques and processes followed for calibrating measuring instruments like Micrometer, Mechanical Comparator, and Vernier Caliper etc. and educate students about the metrology equipment.

Outcomes :

After conducting the experiments the students will understand relation between the theoretical and practical concepts. Objective :

To demonstrate and perform basic principles finding thermal conductivity of various materials like asbestos, glass wool, brass under different mediums, to determine overall heat transfer coefficient of composite slabs, to determine effectiveness and efficiency of aluminum fin, to determine heat transfer coefficients in free and forced convection, to determine emmisivity of grey body, to study the variation of temperature in cooling and heating environment with time.

Students will able to understand the ranges of thermal conductivities for various materials like asbestos, glass wool, brass etc. The students will be able to analyse the heat transfer rates through various crossections and mediums in conduction, convection and radiation modes. Understand how temperature of a given body varies with time in different environments. The students will be able to prepare small demo models to study the heat transfer rates.

Objective :

CAD/CAM Lab experiments Consists of Drafting , Modeling, Assembly and Analysis of Machine elements. 3D modeling package solid works is used for modeling experiments and Analysis experiments are carried out using ANSYS. CAM lab consists of CNC lathe and 6-Axis Robo. CNC programming for various operations on CNC lathe can be studied. 6-Axis Robo is used for material handling .

Experiments in the CAD/CAM lab will give better knowledge in 3D modeling and analysis problems. Online examinations are conducted for identifying the performance of the students. Students can do the real time industrial projects in the lab using the available softwares. CAD/CAM knowledge is essential for getting good opportunities after completing the course.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To demonstrate students, how to measure strain, Vibration parameters, Damped and Undamped frequencies, Velocity of gases by using various instruments
  • And to demonstrate, how the Rotameter and Thermocouples are calibrated
  • To perform Stress analysis experimentally by using Photo elasticity
