The Department of Biotechnology started at ANITS during the academic year 2002-2003. The B.Tech Biotechnology programme which is affiliated to Andhra University was initially approved by the AICTE to have an annual in take of 30 students.
The sanctioned intake was enhanced to 60 students with effect from the academic year 2005-06. In the year 2008-09, the National Board of accreditation (NBA) accredited the department. So far four batches of students have passed out with good results and most of them are pursuing their higher studies programs in India and abroad
